Alex believes psychotherapy is a collaborative process that allows for the experience of being truly seen and truly heard. It deepens self-awareness and increases self-confidence, thereby making real connection outside the therapy room more possible and more fulfilling.

Most of us have suffered from external losses and disappointments and many of us continue to suffer as those losses are woven into our understanding of ourselves, others, and the world around us. Therapy provides an opportunity to explore and understand the complex dynamics at play in our continued suffering and allows us to utilize insight and relationship to move toward increased ease and liberation.

Alex Samets works with both adults and adolescents in Baltimore, Maryland to provide individual, couples, and family therapy. Alex's areas of particular clinical interest include: personality disorders, depression & other mood disorders, anxiety, loss & bereavement, trauma - especially trauma occurring in the context of college fraternity structures - relationship & intimacy issues, ADHD & issues impacting academic achievement, creative/artistic blocks, issues specific to athletes & athletic performance, and individual & family transitions.

Alex Samets practice a relational form of psychodynamic therapy that views the therapeutic relationship as the site of potential transformation. The relationship between therapist and patient is the most important factor in successful therapy. One size does not fit all, and Alex has had great success working with people who have had negative or lackluster experiences in previous therapies and those who are ambivalent about beginning therapy.

Alex's initial goals are to establish trust and create a non-judgmental space in which her patients can feel truly seen and heard. Alex is trained to understand her clients within the many contexts which inform their lived experiences — social, economic, racial, generational, and cultural.

Alex works collaboratively to identify the problems and symptoms showing up in your life, and the behaviors or patterns that might not be serving you in the way they once did. Whether your struggle is deeply rooted or a temporary challenge, whether you are in crisis or looking to deepen your self-awareness, therapy can be the journey that heals and illuminates.

Individual psychotherapy sessions are 45 minutes long and occur once or twice per week. Alex's fees are industry standard for Baltimore.

Alex Samets is not in-network with any insurance provider. Alex can be seen as an out-of-network provider if you have out-of-network benefits. This means you will pay Alex directly and request reimbursement from your insurance company. Alex will provide you with monthly invoices needed to do this and she can assist you in completing claims forms. Each company has different policies for reimbursement; you are encouraged to find out what your plan offers before your initial meeting.
